Article Link! The Great American EV Fire Sale Is About to Begin

That ☝️ is hilarious!

BMW has had Active Sound Design on their cars for 10 years or so. It is a speaker that makes it sound like a hot rod. I believe it originally went into the i8 "supercar", with it's 3 cylinder turbo/electric motor drivetrain. On their more recent electric performance cars it makes a sort of low humming sound that increases with volume and pitch as you get into it more vigorously.

I have wished that somebody would hack into it to change the sounds. I want it to purr like a cat when stopped. Roar like a lion under hard acceleration. SCREAM when braking hard. Make whale song at highway cruise. Gallop like a stampede in parking lots. And for backing up, quack like a duck. That would reduce EV/pedestrian crashes fer sure.

I'm glad to see people can do that sort of thing with Tesla. The ability to do it on BMWs probably exists but their EV customers are likely an entirely different segment of the population than Tesla buyers. We get a lot of VERY LOUD cars, I have no ideal how an exhaust going through a turbo can be so loud. But if their brakes squeak, well that is unacceptable on a car of this caliber. Having your high performance EV purring like a kitten at stoplights would be equally unacceptable.

My GLI had a "sound tube" coming from the intake charge tube (to the TB) up into a mushroom-shaped affair up inside the cowl. I deleted it by using an intake tube from a Passat and cowl plug from a non-turbo 2.5 Jetta. Not only did it sound cheesy, it complicated servicing in an already tight engine compartment.

Later GTIs/GLIs have a "soundaktor" that is a simulated noise speaker up inside the dashboard. It can be turned up, down or off via a factory-ish scan tool.

I've heard more than one Tesla with the Jetson's noise while travelling at low speed. :)

While this is not exactly EV related it does show how overbearing government regulation can discourage an easy, reliable, local energy source.

Article is behind a pay/subscribe wall... Maybe copy/paste text for us?

Calipornia is poned because several refineries there shut down due to onerous state enviro regulations...

Wow... a perfect example of, "We're from the government. We're here to help.... I mean REALLY fuck things up."

Sounds like another problem for Trump / DOGE to fix.

I no longer believe Hanlon's Razor ("Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.") applies here.

This isn't stupidity. The ONLY explanation is malice. Because NO ONE person is this stupid... and certainly no GROUP (agency) of people could possibly ALL be THIS stupid.

It's all a scam that easily perpetrated by leveraging the gullibility of the people to support the "climate change" hoax along with their eagerness to virtue signal by disparaging and excommunicating anyone who dares to question it.

I paid $3.66/gal for hi-test (93) the other day. Regular was about $3/gal. 38¢/gal of that is a county tax. I can save money by filling up the next county over where it is only 12¢/gal tax or if I want to go to Whorlando it is only 6¢/gal tax...
