Wildlife in your back yard? Post'em here!

Cats are psycho serial killers. I had a neighbor in suburban GA who let her cat out all day. This was not a farm cat who keeps rodents under control. It killed birds for no reason. I mentioned this to the neighbor, pointing out domestic cats are an invasive species and they kill millions of birds every year. I told her nicely I dont want her cat killing birds on my property.

One day I saw it stalking birds in my yard. Again. So I put a pellet in its head. Buh bye Mr. Boots.
We've had feral cats in the neighborhood--- we had a neighbor (now deceased) who put out cat food for those "poor loose cats"....and drew them all in. My late FIL, had a nice marlin tube-fed bolt acton 22 that he had much .22 colibri ammo (that I have both now Tee-hee...) onhand. Oregon has a law that you can't shoot feral cats out in Rural areas. I have no idea how many he buried out here while he was still able. snort.

They have been looking at and stalking, my wife's chickens. Grave mistake.

The only wildlife I see from my balcony are illegal invaders that have destroyed the grass field were I used to watch rabbits and squirrels. Rats have displaced the rabbits in the last few years primarily because the invaders do not bother to put trash into the dumpsters. They just throw it on the ground around the dumpster. This causes others that do not wish to wade through trash to toss theirs outside the dumpster, too. Lazy turds!

Oh yes doggie-nip! I love it. We had two Shih-Tzu that were such wonderful chums. Wow, Michelle’s farm!

Ok let me get pic of Renée’s hens… that’s wildlife, right? Little clucks..their first introduction to snow. Hilarious.

Michelle is the pup in pigtails a Havanese? Both of those pups look like real sweet peas.

Saw two deer on my way to work this morning, and another earlier this week. I live 3 miles from work. Sorry, no pics at 0500 and 50 mph. I never used to see deer this close to the house, but there have been a lot of housing developments going in nearby and the habitat is diminishing.

Marmaduke!
lol!!! He's a Great Dane Leaner with about 25% Rott in him, thus the wider noggin. But his personality is ALL leaner. 135 pounds wants to just sidle-up next to you in the couch and slide his butt on your lap, or lean heavily on you if you're standing. It's funny to watch him as my son opens the door to their Freightliner, and he walks right up into the cab....

Had a very interesting encounter with the deer tonight- a mom and her two fawns were grazing away at the fallen produce off an apple tree, and my wife had gone out to put up the hens for the night and they apparently had moved into the front yard as she walked by, keeping their distance.. A few minutes later I go walking out the driveway to get our mail and, before reaching the gate, I happened to look over to my right, and three of them all were 25 feet or so away. I talked to them in low tones and the fawns walked back around the side of the house, and then the young mother actually took a step or two gently towards me and just stood there. By this time, she was no more than 15-20 feet from me and I was stunned. It was a very cool moment. She knew I was no threat to her or the fawns. She may have also been asserting her protection of the fawns, but there was nothing hostile at all. We’re always careful to not shoo them away or in anyway be a cause of alarm to them and I think they sense that. They are welcome to all the apples they can eat. Lesss for us to clean up.

Animals are smarter than many people believe they are. I planted clover all over the place to avoid having to spend so much time mowing. The deer seem to know I put it there because they don't run away when I'm nearby. Except the buck. He stands further away and watches intently.

The property was heavily wooded before the house so the soil is poor. Clover puts nitrogen back into the soil. I threw a few handfuls of wildflower seeds out there in the spring and they are just now coming up. Clover for the deer, wildflowers for the bees.

Harmless black snake. They keep small critters like mice, moles, etc under control.

My wife was siting at the pool with a friend and one of these came out from under the cabana and crawled across her feet. She never moved so fast in her life :)

Yep. We had a really big one hanging out around our house and yard for a couple of years. It would climb up a Spanish Olive tree near the back deck and sleep or whatever they do when they aren't eating or hunting. Freaked my wife out. I came to accept it as sort of a pet. It was about five feet long and had a substantial girth. We also have an occasional red snake, which is easy to confuse with a copperhead. They are not vipers and harmless to humans, but as everybody knows a copperhead can kill you or your animals. So a lot of red snakes get killed due to mistaken identity.

My boat is in the Outer Banks. There are cottonmouths and copperheads everywhere. It's undeveloped and when I go there I am always prepared for a poisonous snake encounter. Sometimes cottonmouths get in the boat. So when I arrive I am sure to have a look around so there are no surprises. This young fellow was waiting for me to jump in the pool one morning.

Corn snake or something like that. Dropped from a palm, slithered across the lawn and into side bushes. Easily 6' long. Frequent visitor...

Small Black Racer Onyx was playing with. They are fierce and will strike and bite when provoked. I got it up on a stick and threw it into the bushes.

Two graves of two bunnies Onyx left (unappreciatedly) for the wife, both in one day. This is the 3rd or 4th bunny so far. She's like "I want to get rid of the damn cat!" I'm like "cats are going to cat--there is not much you can do!" ;) I've already posted a pic of a dead bunny you can go back and refer to... :D

This is some of the local deer soirée at our place. The apple tree is loaded and I've been knocking them down so they can graze for a bite or two, or three. There are others that come by as well. One forked-horn, more doe and fawns... they are usually somewhere on the property here, or closeby
