Wildlife in your back yard? Post'em here!

You should start sitting out there with some apples. Eventually their desire for a snack will overcome their fear and they'll start coming up to you for a bite. When one gets close enough, you grab it by the antlers, sling yourself on its back and go for a ride! :D
But be SURE to get video!

I usually hook them up to my sleigh.

A few minutes ago, our cat was chattering at something and crouching down on the patio like she was stalking something out in the yard. I couldn't figure out what she was focusing on... looked at the grass in our back yard... then back to the brush line... nothing... and then up the tree line....

I believe it's a Heron. They usually hang out near water. First time I've seen one in our yard (no bodies of water nearby).

The big bird is still there. Looks like he's enjoying the morning sun. The view from where I'm sitting in the living room...

Just had three doe jump the front fence and went scampering around the side of our house. Pic forthcoming

Three doe. I think they are some of the regulars around here. Sadly I haven’t seen that picture-perfect Buck we saw here last late fall. He was absolutely magnificent. Only a young buck I call ā€œprongā€ still frequents here.

Ehh no pic but, it's like -10 right now and even the antelope will try hiding behind something to say warm.
So I had a little buddy right behind my front porch all tucked in when I walked out and spooked him.
There are beautiful areas in WY but I live in the flat arid no tree having part.

I won a ticket in the lottery for bighorn hunting a few years ago. I think most states do that now. Another time I was gifted a ticket but did not get one. I had a big male in my sights but declined to take the shot because I thought it was too long. Very demanding physically stalking bighorn in their native habitat. They are also smarter than the average sheep. Psychopathic trophy hunters seek the head for their den, so the season and hunting them is highly regulated. I took what I wanted to eat and donated the rest of the meat to a nearby Indian reservation. Buried the head. The best meal I had with the meat was a red curry-based recipe. Almost as good were the gyros I made with it. Delish. But you gotta like lamb. That's what it tastes like. A bit tougher than store bought lamb.

Not from my back yard, but I came across this recent discovery about Birds-of-Paradise in the fly fishing forum I'm on and thought the readers of this thread might really appreciate as well:

Last week I went down to the street to collect the garbage bin and gathered up a few pieces of litter in the yard that escaped the truck. As I got close to a tree near the street, I could hear buzzing and witnessed this!

So the wife got in contact with a beekeeper who said he would try to come get them but it wouldn't be until later. About an hour later I went down to look at the bees again and THEY WERE GONE! The wife called the beekeeper to see if he had got them and he had not. Apparently they flew away on their own. I looked around the yard and didn't see any swarming.

The ball of bees reminds me of an outing my brother and I took on Lake Monroe, FL about 20yrs ago. I had a little Zodiac with an 8hp on it. I forget what we celebrating but we were. 12pk down between us, we stopped at a marina and got another. šŸ˜ We stopped along the St. John's in a shady spot to get out of the sun and have another beer.

While on shore, his dumbass goes and kicks a fire-ant mound into the water! :D It was hilarious until the resulting, extremely upset, floating, rolling ball of ants starts making its way towards the boat! We both made a hasty retreat back into the boat, with him paddling and me trying to get the motor started. Meanwhile, the ball found the tie-up rope (bow line) in the water and they started following it up towards the bow! I got the motor started and backed away from the ants until we were clear. I don't recall being bitten but I think he got a few bites. :)
