Video Climate change is a money-grabbing hoax, and the Deputy Sec of Energy proves it.

An electric motor delivers 100% of the maximum torque from 1 RPM to 3000. No transmission. Zoom zoom. Neck snapping acceleration .

The late 70s and 80s were bad times for most automakers regarding power output. As mentioned, the smog stuff really cut numbers as did low-compression engines and poorly-formulated unleaded gas.
So if you want to compare SBC, perhaps the 283 might be "better" than the 305 but there is no substitute for cubic inches so why not get a 350 or 400? ;) Or the Z/28 302? I believe that was a 327 with a 283 crank.
That example was a comparison of mileage from older to newer.

If we're doing a resto-mod, I'd opt for a LSA crate engine and have the best of new school tech, and old school power.

There's a pipe dream with a large Tesla drive unit in it should a Powerball win ever happen.

I honestly don't remember what I was getting for mileage out of my old iron. Those were the days that everyone would chip in a buck and I'd end up with a quarter-tank in my Chevy--good enough for a night's worth of cruising... :)

The best mileage I DO remember was a ski-trip to NH in a 1981 4WD Suburban. 350Qjet/TH350. Doing about 65mph on the way home I got 15/16mpg with four people and gear. Had an Edlebrock intake and "torquer" cam, (I forget what they called the package), headers and quiet duals.

Today the fuel efficiency/mileage is better with fuel injection and computer control of the engine parameters.

But compare m.p.g. between say a 1965 Impala with a 283, and its counterpart from the mid 80's with a 305 with carb, and without an OD trans, and at best they were the same. If the 1965 had a manual trans, the m.p.g. would be better. And the 283 would have more power.
😆 that’s a fact ! My 66 Chevy truck gets 6 mpg.

Ah did I mention the mods- 350 engine w/ edelbrock carb, electric start/distributor

Photosynthesis 101: trees, plants and foliage breathe in Co2, and breathe-OUT/release oxygen in exchange. For us all to breathe. More, please.

The climate change shills don’t want us to remember that. Or that just one volcanic eruption injects far more Co2 into the air than we ever could. Then let’s take today’s automobiles. They burn so clean. An absolute nothingburger.

Now back to my peppermint tea.

All true. It's the rate of exchange that matters.

Humans have been clearcutting the forests - and more recently rain forests that provide balance for three centuries. Here's a fun fact: The US, continent of Europe were once densely forested. Forests in both parts of the world are 30% of what they were 300 years ago. Wetlands run a close second to forests in how much CO2 they exchange for oxygen. A fair amount of those have been drained and filled too. Florida especially in the US.

Every second of every day, humans introduce over 1,000 metric tons of CO₂ worldwide due to burning fossil fuels. That's not a natural thing. Plants do the best they can. But the system (or nature) wasnt meant to process such an abundance of CO2. Natural sources of CO2 haven't stopped either. Volcanos, forest fires. It all adds up - to too much.

The old saying... you can't put ten pounds of meat in a two pound bag. Or... you can have one martini before dinner to kick back and relax. A second one you are buzzed. A third martini and you are too fucked up to enjoy the meal. In terms of human produced CO2, we are on the fourth martini and being asked to leave the restaurant.

The cow fart people and those who advocate we curtail farming are lunatics. The problem is the ecosystem cant keep up with how much CO2 we produce from burning oil and coal. The answer is simple. Nuclear energy and go electric for everything. Some say well now... then the Man can just switch us off when he wants to. They can cut off oil and gasoline just as easily. Whoever they is. It amazes me how fucking stupid people are. The math isn't that complicated. We are filling the air bubble we live in with too much gas the natural process cant handle.

Fun fact: the amount of CO2 humans produced from burning wood and coal for fuel in the 19th century was 1 metric ton per second. Now it's 1,000 metric tons per second. So when somebody invents trees that can breathe 1000 times more CO2 than they have for millions of years, we will be fine.

Fun fact #2: How long does it take the mature tree in your yard to process the CO2 your car produced idling in the driveway for 5 minutes? Answer: On average... one week. Depending on the size of the tree. The O2/CO2 exchange rate is less in the winter with deciduous trees. Leaves matter.

-welcome to OnStar, and like systems that already have that capability. one keystroke away.

I truly believe in responsibility for what we've been given, and proper stewardship. But that within reason and valid, current data. So many do not use fireplaces and burn wood any longer because in many communities, cities and states, it's been outlawed. And this for years on end.

Now we have all sorts of options for the clean burning of organic (note I did not say the lie "fossil") fuels. They are in place and work wonderfully. The most egregious offender of honest environmental concerns today, is CCP China. They could care less.

One of the most brilliant things I ever heard uttered regarding "the destruction of the planet" was this statement, paraphrased by yours truly: "all the claims of humanity destroying the plant by nuclear bombs, or whatever else is a display of human arrogance. There is only ONE that can and will destroy the planet if and when He so chooses, and that's God, ladies and gentlemen..."
-Rush Limbaugh via his radio broadcast.

I see no need to phase out petrol cars when they burn as clean as they do. Period. Electric cars are nice but they are also a means of limiting personal travel. Intended by those deep state pukes. Me- I want to drive, pull over, fill the tank, and continue on to my destination. Not have to wait for even the availably of a fast charger (if there is one), let alone the down time to wait for a full charge. Pfft. We have a constitutional right to travel freely here.

And there is no way this present infrastructure can support a populus forced into electric vehicles. The grid would collapse in a puff. Then NO electricity for ANYTHING.

This myth gets repeated a lot on social media. Mostly by bots.

The grid will not collapse. Electricity production has increased by about 3% annually since 1950, while EVs will require only an additional 1% of capacity per year between now and 2050. Bottom line: Charging EVs is a nit in terms of overall power demand. If Projections stating that half of the cars on the road by 2030 will be EVs holds true, demand will not exceed capacity.

Nobody gets upset when a new subdivision or condos are built in thier town. Nobody is worried where the electricity is going to come from. Because it isn’t a real problem. It’s fake news ‘the grid’ can’t handle the load from EVs.

I worked for the company that designed and built 70% of the fossil and nuke plants in this country. I was there for nearly a decade.

Not really related but my residence’s total energy use is around 40% solar. I’m slowly increasing that over time. Lots of people who know nothing about it told me that wouldn’t work. I’m still waiting for it to not work.

A full charge of a typical EV uses the same amount of electricity as a window air conditioner running for four hours. Or a water heater.

So why does southern California have brownouts, rolling blackouts, and tell people to unplug? Because the state is run by idiots that will not approve new transmission lines or new generating facilities to be built. Beside the fact you can’t build any type of power plant in California, They have vast unpopulated, arid areas perfect for solar and wind to supplement demand but inadequate transmission lines to move the power to population centers where the demand is greatest.

I should have mentioned the Slurpie machine at 7-11 uses enough power each day to fully charge three EVs. They usually have several of those machines churning day and night.

Then there’s the Big Gulp machine. And that thing with the rollers for hot dogs that are months old.

Let’s not forget the holiday spirit!

I'd bet the power bill for one month at the Wawa is equal many people's annual salary.

And we are worried about running out of electric power?

A good size window a/c is 18K BTU. 4 hours of running is about 9kW of juice.

A Chevy Bolt has a 65kWh battery. Your larger EV's like Teslas and Rivians have 100+kWh batteries now.

Following the EV rule of thumb and keeping the battery between 20% and 80%, and for this discussion, calling that a full charge, charging our example Bolt to 80% from 20% is 39kW.

If you are the typical EV owner and work a 9-5, you will plug up the car to charge at night. If you are fortunate to have an electric company that has a lower rate after 11pm, you will program the charger to start the charge then. Otherwise, whenever "off peak" is in your area.

So, we are in agreement that EVs won't collapse the grid, at least outside of California, they do require more power than an a/c though.

Instead of battery theory, let’s think about this like we do gas powered vehicles. In terms of MPG and cost. Miles driven.

Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD: avg 14,000 miles per year. 0.29 kWh/mile = 4,060 kWh/year. There are charging losses with any battery system. Some energy is lost to heat. Factoring that in, let’s say 4500 kWh per year.

A modestly sized 8000 btu window unit is about 1000 watts. So in practical terms, running a 1000-watt air conditioner for 12 hours a day for a year uses 4380 kWh. The point was... an EV is no more of a burden on the power system than a cheap, midsized window air conditioner. And less noisy. :)

The other myth is range. Nobody drives their personal vehicle 300 miles a day. Seriously... what a bunch of horseshit that range is an issue for the average person. Personally, I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than drive long distances. I like to get where I'm going as fast as possible. If the drive is four hours or more, I fly. Or don't go. That's just me. Driving is not a source of joy. Those who like to drive... or maybe are into RVs...? Fine. Buy a gas burner. I have owned Exxon Mobil stock for years. I cant wait for those dividends when gasoline is 20 bucks a gallon. :)

I love old cars and motorcycles. But new, everyday transportation... I'm going electric. Very close to pulling that trigger. I test drove the GMC Denali EV. Impressive. 760 hp. With extended range batteries 460 miles of range. If you are the type who has a habit of running on "E", it takes only ten minutes of charging to get enough juice for the next 100 miles. It's expensive, but this truck is awesome. Ford still cannot get their act together on the F150 Lightning. I gave up my place in line for one a year ago.

I dont have an EV - yet. But I planned ahead. When I do, and if necessary, I can flip a switch to power the essential services in the house for two weeks, perhaps more using the car batteries. If the main battery for the house runs out. Or flip another switch and charge the vehicle with my solar panel system. I can also charge the house batteries or a vehicle off the regular power grid. My solar panel/inverter system is currently 8kW. That system delivers almost enough AC to power the entire house. Provided I get no less than 5 hours of sunlight. It charges even when overcast. Just not as fast. If I switch off non-essentials like the pool pump, heat pumps, exterior lighting, and tankless water heaters (wife says those are not optional), I could independently run off solar. The fireplaces in the home are wood burning.

I also have a whole house generator with a 500 gallon propane tank. I think I'm covered on the various SHTF scenarios. Especially once I have the EV.

I love the idea of having an EV that can be charged with my own solar panels. The ultimate libertarian staff car. Plus it is all downhill to work so I would be making free energy each morning.😎

Don't spend your Exxon Mobile dividend yet. The gas will be 20/gal because future prez AOC put her green new deal in place through executive order and 19 bucks of each gallon will be subsidies to the unicorn fart lobby.

Republicans in the house transportation committee proposed a federal vehicle tax then killed it just a week ago. It would have been an easy way for an administration to punish or reward their subjects for driving the wrong or right kind of vehicle. This administration would tax EVs to fund highways, the next would tax ICE vehicles to pay for climate justice.

We may be cheering on our guys right now but they are setting precedents to be picked up and run with when the pendulum swings back the other way. Can you imagine a future progressive administration that issues meme coins for each newly elected person? Could an AOC/Bernie "$fight fight fight the oligarchy" coin be used to buy influence at the top rungs of a government of the people, by the people, for the people? How about an Executive Island Club that is invite only, costs $.5 million to join and is staffed with all of the unaccompanied minors that will once again be welcomed over the border?

45 - 46 - 47 was a pretty significant pendulum swing. 48 is going to say, "hold my beer and watch this!"

You have a point there re: the price of a gallon of gas.

Even so XOM will never lose money. Oil has a lot of other uses besides gasoline and diesel.

Exxon Mobile and their board arent dumb like Boeing, who was at the top of their game until their woke board put a tranny accountant in charge of an aerospace firm that had an engineer or connected Harvard man in the big office since biplanes were state of the art. That dickhead Calhoun, who was a post-Welch lifer during GEs precipitous decline, turned Boeing into a train wreck. Perhaps more accurately... a plane crash. The new top guy is once again an engineer and he will fix what the faggoty bean counter broke.

I am bullish on XOM. I'm skeptical AOC can get elected. She has a face like a mule but a nice rack. If she does pull it off, believe me the CEO of XOM will have no trouble scheduling a meeting with Ms President to inform her how it's going to be.

I want Al Gore and Greta to lead by example and be the first to save the planet by voluntarily not contributing to the problem. 😁

Some of this will very likely happen, but it's a false narrative. Much of this was little more than sensational mass media stories and the ramblings of crackpots vs. any sort of science

Idiots and religious fanatics have been predicting the end of the world for centuries. So those can be dismissed first.

Acid rain was legit. Catalytic converters on vehicles and pollution controls in power plants and industry made a huge reduction in sulphur dioxide and other acidic emissions. Also a mandate to burn low sulphur coal. Billions were spent on this. It took years to implement and it worked. Ask me how I know.

Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs actually did make a hole in the ozone. Satellites photographed it. It really wasn't a hole. More like a bubble. Regulating that was effective and the so called hole has almost completely disappeared since it was discovered in the 70s. The experts did say the result of CFC oxidation the upper atmosphere would take about 50 years to break down. So that adds up.

The Maldives have not disappeared but that fat lady may still sing. The majority of their reefs are dead or dying. The reefs naturally absorb a lot of ocean energy, like storms when they are working. Flooding is becoming a problem in some of the islands. Groundwater has become contaminated in the lowest of the islands due to the rising sea level. The 'experts' in the 80's were wrong about how fast sea level will rise. They said it would be up a meter by now. It's only been 8 inches in the past 100 years. But it is still increasing. All of the populated Maldives are one meter above sea level. So if it gets to be a foot of rise.... no rational person thinks that not going to be a problem. If the current rate continues and doesn't accelperate, by 2100 the Maldivians are going to need waders.

Nobody is questioning arctic ice melting. Check out ice loss in Greenland. It's easier to observe than the polar ice caps. The disappearing ice is obvious even to the casual observer.

Most of the rest of this cartoon is just that. It's comedy. Famine, mass extinction... this is all bullshit end of the world sort of claptrap only the stupid or paranoid take seriously.

On the other hand there could be a giant rock on its way to Earth that can cause mass extinction and they haven't told us. Nor would they until it was imminent and couldn't be kept secret. Anything is possible.

Try to bear in mind that there are a lot of people who think the moon landing was faked. There are others who believe the moon is a hollow metal spaceship that was built by aliens to manage Earth's climate, tides, temperature, and so on.

1.2 billion Hindu (15% of the world's population) believe there are 9 Gods and one of them is an elephant. Point being, people believe what they want to believe. Even when there are no facts supporting it.

Humans have been fucking up the planet since the Industrial Revolution. Some theories about how much damage we are doing is extremist nonsense. Some if it is simple common sense - which boils down to don't shit where you eat. Industrial toxins dumped on the ground, into our oceans, rivers and lakes, or the air have literally killed millions of people over the past 150 years. Birth defects, cancers mainly.

It's a common human failing to not give a shit. Until it's their well that's poisoned.
