Don't the ejection seats have homing transmitters built into them?

I wonder if the pilots still carry pistols like in the olden days... ;)

Not to my knowledge. But my knowledge is limited. I do not recall that being mentioned when I went through "back seat quals" (water survival and ejection seat) training.

I would expect any beacon transponder would be directly on the air crew (part of their survival vest), not on the ejection seat.

I don't know. But I hope so when in a combat theater.

Some seats do have an ELT that is activated some don't. The seat I used most had an automatic beacon in the seat pan that started broadcasting as the seat went up the rails. I'm not sure what the current logic is. I could see where it might not be the best thing to automatically start the ELT. The seat pan stays with you until released by the ejectee giving away your position to anyone with a 1940s or newer direction finder .

I think the current issues pistol is a SIG so maybe it's best not to carry anything. I do wonder if the .38 revolvers from WWII are still in the armory?

I had a craving for one of these at one time. SA was a little too proud of theirs so I passed. The original (if you could find one) is a SBR... :(
