My path to acquiring this rifle was accidental. When living in GA, now and then I would place an order for a firearm thru a guy who ran his FFL out of his house. I used him mainly for transfers but now and then I’d toss him a bone and order something thru him. His crappy web site was like many other home-based FFLs… the site really just points to his distributor. You buy whatever and they drop ship the item to him.
In my haste I placed an order for P365XL and somehow had dropped this Howa 1500 in 308 into the cart. The checkout process was clumsy and seconds after clicking buy - and there was no sanity check/is this order correct step - I realized I had inadvertently also purchased the rifle. I tried calling the distributor and got no answer. The FFL guy said dont sweat it, he can send it back and I’ll get a refund. All good.
So the day it shows up I open the box and decided to keep it. The Howa 1500 has a lot of features commonly associated with higher-end bolt guns. The action was smooth, the trigger was decent and Howa is known for high quality barrels. It’s also way lighter than a lot of bolt guns in this class.
I've put maybe 20 rounds thru this gun then parked it in the safe. That was several years ago. I've been on a bolt gun jag lately, so I’m going to mount some glass on this gun and see what it can do.
