Same theme, different lesson. Just because you have a permit to carry/constitutional carry doesn't mean you can go anywhere, do anything, say anything, because you have a gun.

If you pack, its best that not a soul knows you are packing unless and until they need to know.

And with the majority of carriers being mature and sane, it has the opposite effect. Rather than be emboldened and confrontational, it causes an evolution and attitude of AVOIDANCE of conflict. Because I carry, I am FAR less likely to engage in confrontation.... and far more likely to go to great lengths to avoid it. And I know that's true for 99% of my fellow carriers.

I took the CC class a long time ago. I admit, I walked into the class thinking that I would be able to drive through/be in any bad area I wanted to. I didn't have to avoid them anymore. By the end of the one day class, I concluded it would be best to specifically avoid these area by an even wider berth.

Every once in a while you'll meet someone who mindlessly boasts, "I have a license to carry, but I only carry in places I might need it."

To them, I reply, "Think about that for a minute. In places you might need it??? Why are you going to such places? Wouldn't it be better to just not go there?"

My sensei, way back when I was studying Kenpo, used the say "the best block for a punch is to not be there." In the micro, that meant you shouldn't block or absorb a strike if you can sidestep it. In the macro, it meant you shouldn't be in places where you know bad things are likely to occur. If there's always a fight in a certain bar on Friday night, don't be there on a Friday night! That's advice I have taken to heart for these past 35 years.
