Woke CEO Julie Masino gets the axe. New CEO also helms Outback, so maybe he'll get them back in their lane.

Julie has a degree in Communications. The internet says this is exactly what a CEO needs as they are not hands on, but 90% of what they do is persuade, negotiate, and motivate. Sounds like the skill set of a used car salesman.
And none of those skills seemed to help her in the rebranding of CB, actually just the opposite.
Blue collar America does not look at their breakfast through the same lens as you Julie. They don't want the store sanitized to look like a new McDonald's inside and pay for the remodel with smaller portion sizes and higher menu prices.

When I worked at the car dealership many years ago, they hired a new body shop manager. This was a small body shop, so he was also the crash estimator. Writing crash estimates is not something you learn in a couple days, and back then, no computer assistance. You got out the estimator's handbook and wrote it up piece by piece, labor op by labor op.

So, long story shorter, I'm talking to the boss's son who is the General Manager. I ask him about the new guy. He says he previously worked at a local plant that manufactured electric meters. I asked him does he know anything about body work, because I would be getting his crash estimates to order parts from.
He looks at me like that was the dumbest question he ever heard and says, "You don't need to know anything about it to manage it." 😲
Now I might agree if you're talking the manager of a Dollar General, but this is a little different.

Julian eventually got squared away, but there was a learning curve, and I had to suffer through it with him. One of those "you don't realize how much you don't know" situations.

So, Julie will move on and most likely land another upper management gig with a big corporation with a 6-figure salary even though she face planted at CB. The question is will she learn from this and not repeat the same mistake or blow it off and push ahead with the woke warrior agenda? In the end, I don't really care.

My first exposure to her was when she was on GMA. It was clear those who were telling her how excited they were for a store freshener were sycophants. As a leader, you have to watch for those trying to climb up your backside as well as those trying to tear you down. Terrible leader with a terrible idea can wreck a company. Good thing she is out so maybe they can recover and prosper.

Now that they canned her, I might consider going back to CB. I have refused to eat there since this whole woke saga began. The fact that they stepped back from the push to revamp the stores wasn't enough for me. I wanted her ass fired before I would even play with the idea of eating there again.

Officially, she "Stepped Down". šŸ™„

Top executives are rarely referred to as "fired" unless they committed a crime. Otherwise, board-initiated departures are a given euphemistic verbiage so it doesn't sound as harsh as it really is. But we all know better. I've seen this play out several times where I worked.

Here's the trajectory from rising star to crash and burn in one year.

She left after a major public backlash

The logo rebrand was a disaster.

She left after the board reversed her strategy

Boards don’t reverse a CEO’s signature initiative unless confidence is gone.

She left after political pressure

The Trump comment created national attention and shareholder discomfort.

She left after stock volatility

Boards hate brand instability.

She left after only one year

CEOs rarely ā€œstep downā€ voluntarily after 12 months unless something went wrong.

She was kept on as an advisor for 60 days

This is classic ā€œsoft landingā€ protocol.

The company gave no reason for her departure

When a CEO leaves voluntarily, they usually give a reason. When they don’t, it’s almost always a board‑driven exit.

Every major outlet used neutral language (ā€œstepping downā€)

This is exactly how forced resignations are publicly framed.

And then she made this comment, which was curious if you were leaving for greener pastures.

By coincidence, I will be dining at CB tomorrow. I will quiz our server and see what employee sentiment is.
