A Little Harsh Truth -Honesty in Memes

is the watered-down Kool-Aid bastardized versions of 'evolution' often taught in public schools that emphatically states human used to be apes that 'evolved' on their own through 'natural selection'.

In all my years of education in science and specifically in evolutionary biology... I've never heard, read, or seen even any implied notion that "humans used to be apes." This is simply false.

I realize this is what is often claimed in public circles. But as one with a rather formal education in the sciences, including evolution, I have literally never come across that notion. Not once, in any of my textbooks or lecture halls was it said that "humans used to be apes."

OK... enough of that. I respect everyone's beliefs.

Dr Jack Kevorkian ("DR Death" as the media dubbed him) served eight years in prison before being paroled, for assisting the terminally ill and suffering patients who ASKED him to help in their suicides.
How many of the what, 7 MILLION attributed to C-19 (yeah, I know that number is grossly inflated, but it isn't zero...:cautious:) asked for Falschi's 'help' in dying? Did our economy ask for his help in killing it? Guess how many years he will serve in prison... No, we will continue to fund his cushy retirement instead...

Yep, this is exactly the BS peddled-off as 'science' in many/most/all? public-schools, over at least SOME point of time. Teaching it doesn't make it true, in fact teaching a deliberate lie often obscures the truth that the lie impersonates in a poor caricature...

I initially was going to honor my pledge to bow out. But, I thought I'd just offer some enlightenment about that rather famous illustration. The short version: It's bunk.

The longer version.... First, Darwin died in 1882. That illustration was created in 1965. One has literally nothing to do with the other.

Secondly, that illustration has been broadly dismissed by the actual scientific community as a gross misunderstanding and misrepresentation of evolution and the origin of modern humans. But it is a persistent illustration popular among those who simply don't know.

It has become an iconic illustration, but it's simply incorrect. And not just a little bit incorrect. It was not in any of my textbooks, and my high school and post-secondary education were after 1965. :)

Wiki has a pretty good summary and history about that illustration:

You can deny and and attempt to dissuade me here all you want. It doesn’t change what my original post is conveying which is - My point : exactly what GSW10 posted. Whether it’s true or not that’s what’s being peddled as science and that’s a fact.

I'm not trying to dissuade you or anyone. And there is nothing to "deny." I completely respect anyone's beliefs when it comes to religious vs scientific views of the origins of humans. Really, I do. My only point here is to refute the "conventional wisdom" of what evolution actually is. Much of the objections are based on misrepresentations (like the artistic "March of Progress").

Like I said... even while not being religious myself, I see religion and actual theories of evolution being quite compatible and even intertwined. Based on my knowledge of biology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, physics, etc... I have a hard time believing that lightning struck some magic soup and life arose from that. I understand that some amino acids may have been produced. But going from that to even a very simple living organism is quite a leap.

And there is a LOT of stuff out there being peddled as "science." LOL! I think we're in agreement there... to wit.... COVID "vaccines." I cannot tell you how frustrating it was as a person who is very well-versed in Science to be lectured by people whose own exposure to science left off at their business-degree-required science credit - mostly likely "Biology for Poets & Lovers" or "Rocks for Jocks" in their freshman year of college. If that!

They're getting their "science" from Newsweek and the NYT and sending me those articles. Meanwhile I'm getting my information on COVID MRNA vaccines from "Frontiers in Immunology" (and other peer reviewed sources). Not a single person took me up on my offer to send them those articles to read. But they got mad at me for not "believing in science" according to NEWSWEEK!

Similarly, what is being peddled as the "science of evolution" is not at all true, especially to those of us who have actually studied evolution. I took a whole semester on just Evolution, specifically. Of course, it also was part of many other courses I took.

Nowhere in the ACTUAL science of evolution has it ever been suggested that "humans evolved from apes / monkeys / etc." I know that's what some people are saying and believing. But it's simply not true... just as untrue as the mythical "assault weapon." Unfortunately, Science and History have long been distorted in the public school system. To wit... from a local high school book: (Look at the blue highlighted annotation - "for military purposes" in the 2A.) Also note the language in the pretext of the amendment: "The people MAY bear arms." 🤮

The "March of Progress" illustration is nothing more than a piece of "art" based on either fantasy or a misunderstanding of evolution. No matter how many people SAY that it represents the theory of evolution, they are factually incorrect.

^^^That was precisely my point, if I hadn't made it clear. (y) Except in my experience, they HAVE used that crap in schools. Motivation why, I don't know anymore. Further divide the extremes of our people? I'm starting to believe in that direction, with what I have been seeing lately. Goes right to what Yuri was saying in that MGB video @Michele posted.

But overall, I think we are in the same chapter, possibly even on the same page.:)

I wonder if Zelensky slipped Pelosi the tongue in this smooch today in Congress?

Not a meme, but it is "A little harsh truth"....
