When we lived in Venezuela, we wouldn't have DARED to wave the American flag. First, it would be very POOR TASTE. It's not something you do. EVER. I went to an American school there. Guess which flag was flown on the school's flagpole! The flag of VENEZUELA. Guess which national anthem we (students) had to learn to sing IN SPANISH?? Venezuela's, of course. We were in their country! DUH!
It's all part of assimilating the culture. It's part of the the experience. And it was wonderful!
