Breaking! I won a major prize! I don't think it's going to be in a crate marked "Frahg-e-lee" though

Cool! Congrats!

Pro Tip #1
Lay in a supply of CCI Std Vel. ammo.
Order it in the 50 rd. boxes.
Buy it by the case.
Use this ammo in rifles.
You can use cheaper bulk pack in pistols. If the barrel is 5" or less, it will stay subsonic.

Pro Tip #2
Buy a tube of this grease at an auto parts store or order online.
Before you fire the first shot through that can, take it apart and coat all the baffles and the inside of the tube.
If you don't, the suppressor will be a PITA to take apart and clean.
Take it apart and clean it about every 500 rounds or so.
You will thank me later.

Thanks, I have 6 or 12,000 rounds of highs velocity 22LR for my Kel-Tec so I will need to get some slow speed for this.
My buddy has a can on his Ruger 10/22, and we are often the only people on the range so it will be fun to run without ears covered for a test :)

And he's mentioned how much of a pita it is to clean the can, so I will be prepared.
Thanks again!

The silicone prevents the lead from sticking to the baffles. Clean up should be a handful of Q-Tips and a paper towel. Re-grease and you're GTG.

The speed of sound is temperature dependent. In summer, the CCI SV will work fine, in winter you will get a slight crack.
You can buy a selection of subsonic ammo and chrono them, but the slower it gets, it may not make the 10/22 action cycle. The closer you get to 1000 fps, the ifyer it gets. 1040-1050 fps is the sweet spot. I bought a case of Aguila subs one time and found that out. :( They get used in the bolt action.

And CCI SV* and SS are the same ammo. Yeah, I know the box says 1070fps for the SV and 1050 for the subs. Chrono it and see for yourself. The only difference is the subs are HP and cost more. The CCI segmented subsonic is devastating on squirrels...as long as you're not wanting to eat what's left.
The powder coated CCI HV and SS does a good job of keeping the lead plasma from building up in the can, but is a little less accurate, and of course costs more.

Don't say anything to your shooting bud and let him witness the first cleaning. You might wangle a free lunch for divulging the secret. ;)

* CCI SV is the reference ammo we try to get peeps to bring to silencer test days at NFATalk. It is the most consistent and accurate of the non-match type ammos. In fact, CCI has stated that their Green Tag match ammo is really selected lots of SV that exhibit exceptional accuracy in post production QA testing.
Same for Gemtech SS ammo. Gemtech is also in ID and has CCI make the ammo. My 10/22 loves it. Slightly heavier 42gr. bullet too.

Fun Facts:
The 10/22 has a steel bolt stop at the rear of the receiver that makes a fair amount of noise when the action cycles. You've never noticed it until you get a can. You can buy fancy replacements that are a polymer tube with a steel core to reduce the noise. Cheap solution is buy a piece of 1/4" Delrin rod and cut to length. Slide out the factory steel pin and replace with the Delrin. Not quite as quiet as the polymer, but almost.

And if you want to demonstrate how much the action noise is, do this. Assuming right-handed shooter.

If you are holding the rifle in the conventional manner with the forend in the left palm, rotate the left hand so the thumb is on the starboard side of the rifle. Place the thumb behind the bolt handle and apply a firm grip and forward pressure when you fire. This will illustrate the difference in sound signature between a bolt gun and semi. Have your bud do it while you listen from 25 feet both semi and single shot. Single shot will sound like releasing a chuck from an air hose. Semi will sound like a staple gun. ;)

Right hand?

Right hand?
No. Right hand is the firing hand. Left hand is the support hand. I tried to find a pic but couldn't.

While you're reading this, mime holding the rifle like normal, palm up under the forearm.
Now rotate the left hand 180 degrees CCW so the thumb is on the starboard side of the stock.
Position the thumb behind the bolt handle.
When ready to fire, push forward slightly with the thumb and grasp the stock firmly. The bolt has no inertia if you do this, so it is a gentle impulse against the thumb as long as you maintain a firm grip.

If you hold it loosely and leave a gap between the bolt and thumb, you give the bolt a running start. Then it will smart a little.

Found a video demonstrating the technique. Skip to 4:30 if you don't want to watch the entire vid, but the 10/22 Charger looks like a nifty little item.
Keep in mind cell phones do not capture gun shots all that well and the camera is several feet away. You can hear the difference, but when you're the shooter and the gun is right next to your face, the difference is more profound.

You try rotating your left hand counter clodkwise.
from the vid, he rotates clockwise. I could do that :)

BTW, when do you take possession of this windfall?
You know the rule. Pics or it didn't happen.

I need to mail paperwork tomorrow, and once they get it they will get my FFL info and ship the rifle, and ship everything else except the silencer, which they will work with me on.
After the ATF approves they will ship the silencer to me.

Cool.
At least now the F4 gets approved in a few days. The shortest I ever waited was 56 days for my first can. The longest took 15 months.

I also need to peruse Hogdon's catalog and pick ten pounds of powder
According to the prize list, you can pick from all the powders that Hodgdon's distributes, which includes Winchester and IMR. (y)

Yep! I have 8 lbs of Winchester 6.5 StaBall already, but I also have "sufficient" of CFE 223 and CFE Pistol, so I am in a quandry.

Technically, Hogdon, IMR, Winchester, Accurate, Blackhorn 209, and Ramshot

I'm going to be a giddy, busy kid in a powder shop, running willy nilly through the catalog comparing velocity per grain and checking reviews to see if anyone has issues with any of them in my RCBS Matchmaster powder dispenser, or my Hornady powder drop or the Dillon powder drop.
The original listing for the contest included a MatchMaster powder dispenser, and though a second one might not have been an issue I am not unhappy that they switched to the RCBS MatchMaster Precision Case Trimmer - which I just realized that I did not mention in the original post.

I'm actually thinking of getting an FFL as an ammunition manufacturer now- make the hobby pay for itself.

I have at least one friend who would come over and help.

Dunno what your reloading and silencer future holds, but here's some suggestions.

If you plan on loading 300 BLK subs for use in an AR, especially one with Carbine or Mid length gas, get some Accurate AA1680. If the gun has pistol gas, W296 or H110 is fine. AA1680 is also great for 7.62X39.

For 45-70 subs, Trail Boss.

For 308 subs, Trail Boss.

For 38 Special/357 Mag. 44Special/44 Mag. subs in lever guns, get some Bullseye.

If an M1 from CMP is on the bucket list, IMR4895 or H4895.
