Thoughts on Swampfox Optics?

**NOT SPONSORED BY TRIJICON BTW** LOL
Though maybe I should ask EOTECH to sponsor me...

Since I have 4 of their optics hahah

The SRO claims a battery life of like ~3 years (?) constant-on (depending on brightness settings) but suggests that you swap the battery once a year.

She has always been on and ready to go. I think it stays on for 12-16 hours(?) and the timer resets when a button is pushed.
I check it every morning when I'm getting ready, or when I take a bathroom break to make sure it is still on and working.

I'm confused. Is the SRO always on? Or does it auto-off after XX hours? If so, does it turn itself back on with motion? Or do you have to manually turn it on?

Apologies for the confusion.

By default, SRO is auto-off after 16.5 hours, has an internal timer that resets each time a button is pushed.

Also from their FAQ there is a setting for constant on:

How do I put the Trijicon SRO® into Manual Brightness Lock-In Mode?

To place the SRO® into Manual Brightness Lock-In Mode:

  1. The SRO® must be on and not in Button Lock-Out mode.
  2. Manually select the desired brightness setting by pushing either the + or - button. Once the desired setting is selected, press and hold either button for 3 seconds. The dot will blink accepting the brightness level and will then lock in that setting. (The 16.5-hour timer will be turned off and the SRO® will stay in that brightness setting until the battery is depleted or the unit is taken back to manual mode by the user).
  3. To change Lock-In settings, press and hold both buttons for 1 second to return to manual control. Repeat step 2.

Ah... so if it does time out and turn off, it has to be manually turned on? I'm not keen on that approach.

My RMR is always on. No time out.

It has a setting to be always on as well. I just don't have that enabled on mine. Functionally, it is practically identical to the RMR (y)

Ah, OK. Got it.

I like to think of it as the RMR's bigger sibling that is a bit more sensitive (since it isn't duty-rated for durability) :ROFLMAO:

But if you treat her nice and take her out to dinner every once in a while she'll be good to you.

Will it automagically poke a cloverleaf hole in the x-ring?

I wholeheartedly agree the SRO is awesome. My preference in red dot optics is Trijicon and Leupold. I tend to put those on my more expensive pistols. On the more affordable side of things, I prefer Viridian. Green dot, big window like the SRO. Everything you need and nothing you don't.

I just went with a swamp fox because of their price and warranty. I also ordered the plate to protect the optics from falls, hits etc. I am not going to slam it against a tree to rack it etc. I also haven't heard much bad things about them nor any popular brand. Any defensive gun that has a dot will have back up iron sights because things fail.
