EWS: Illinois House Bill 4414 would require EVERY round of handgun ammunition sold or possessed in Illinois to carry a serial number — starting January 1, 2027. The bill also creates a state-run ammo registry and allows the Illinois State Police to charge up to 5 cents per round in end-user fees.

I should move there after 2027. "This round of 9mm is serial FU00000001" ........... a month later "This round of 9mm is serial FU10000001"

Do you want the 38 special, 357 magnum, 45 ACP, 22LR, 223, 5.56, 308, 6.5 CM, 30-06, 45-70, or 12 gauge next month?

That is about as feasible as micro-stamping. (ie: NOT) Whatever idiot sponsored this nonsense bill should be kicked in the nuts or taint...

As if the cops are going to start checking ammo for serial numbers...

This ranks up there with the example of stupidity when the Colorado lawmaker expressed her "understanding" that once you "used up the bullets" in the "high-capacity" magazine that it was no longer usable. She thought mags were a one-time use item.

But then again.... we had a "president" who thought a 9-mm could "blow a lung out."

If they serialized the bullets, they could trace back the bullets to who shot them much like how gun serial numbers can trace the gun back to the original owner and who committed the crime. 🙄

They will be overwhelmed trying to trace the vast number of bullets fired in Chicago on any given weekend. Thus leading to more tax increases to fund the much needed department of bullet tracing. All for your safety, of course.

Where, exactly, would the serial number be engraved on a bullet such that it won't be damaged or erased by the process of firing it?

And considering an estimated 10 - 15 BILLION rounds purchased PER YEAR in the US... those serial numbers are going to be many many digits long. Where will they fit on a bullet? Serial #293838483926 on a .22LR bullet??? LOL! Good luck with that!

Not to mention the cost of the process. It might drive prices to astronomical levels. ??? But then if you can’t end gun ownership then make it harder to secure ammo. Does the term “Black Market” come to mind? Just making regular people criminals

I've got an idea... "B80." "80% Boolits." :ghostBoolits!

I'm thinking of a simplified process.... where maybe all you do is seat the bullets. Everything else is already there. "80%."
I used to do something like that with my muzzle loaders. Nitrated cigarette papers, followed by patch and round ball. If the paper was well infused with potassium nitrate it would catch spark and ignite the charge. It didn’t work for me every time which was a bit of a pain. I had to take the nipple off and sprinkle a few grains of “four F” and hope it worked. I learned to bite off the end and dump the powder in. Didn’t want to get too much of the “salt peter” in my mouth.

I powder coated 32 1/2 pounds of 100gr bullets for the Makarov's today.
They are going in 9mm Luger brass I cut down to Makarov length. I'm sure
this law if passed would curtail my efforts.
