Here we go again...

Rookie mistake. Never, ever, not one time, add up everything. Especially don't leave a digital footprint that spouses may find and blow it for everyone else.

This is how you play it. I got a sweet deal on this barrel. $159 marked down from $400. I had most of the other parts just sitting around. A couple more bucks for some pins and springs. That's all I can think of... I built this sweet rifle for like $300, tops.

Your wife does it too when she gets a shipment of makeup and stuff. You really believe that sample was only $10? It's how the game of married life is played.

Reminds of the joke (or not!) that goes, "I hope that when I die, my wife doesn't sell my... fishing rods / tools / guns / knives / guitars / bikes / etc... for what I told her I paid for them!"

Shit, my wife is a knife person. We probably have a couple hundred laying around. She already said once this rifle is done she gets a new knife or 2. Im good with it lol

Now i just need the time to put it together.

Well Im not much of a photographer, but I stayed at work later than usual and got this together and torque everything to spec. Now to get it out, break it in, and dial it in. It is so smooth to... it feels great..

Finally took some clearer pics a gun buddy local to me wanted to see so I figure I'd post em here. Don't judge me. My wife is the football fan. Not me. 🤷‍♂️

It's good to see I'm not the only one that recklessly mixes black and FDE.

Or worse. 😯

Oh, and that blank canvas of a magwell is crying out for a bit of laser engraving. Maybe a fleur de lis? ;)

Beautiful! I am a little jealous. I have a DDM4, it came with a quad rail. I swapped it out to a Dainel Defense Keymod rail during the month of firearms history when Keymod was a thing. Just you try to find anything useful that mounts to Keymod in 2026. It does have a kinda cool holey look to it but the M-Lok rail is a little slimmer, smoother and has way more mount options. As you know, anything with DD on it is 💰 and I do not want to sink another stack of cash to get the matching DD M-Lok rail for it. I am trying to sell the gun, let it be somebody else's option to change it. I did manage to get a light mounted to it by cheating and fastening it to the top picatinny rail as like you, I do not have a front sight on this gun.

Nice. Now the important question… how’s it run?

Being terribly OCD, everything with me needs to be matchy-matchy. I'm mostly monochromatic.

Im really not worried about colors or anything. I give it a month or so, and it'll be scratched up, dirty, whatever. Im intending to run the living snot out of this rifle.

I have a hallway that leads to the guest bedrooms in my home. 16 feet long. One end of the corridor is 1/4 inch wider than the other. Every time I walk down that hallway I can see it is off. I can't believe nobody else notices it. :)

I have the innate ability to see "straight" (or crooked). :) I can just look at things and tell they are "off". While I'm not necessarily a perfectionist or OCD, I am precise and expect the same from those around me but am often disappointed. :(

I can also look at the head of a bolt or the threads and tell you the size/pitch.

My FIL had a house that had settled in the rear. I could tell the first time I walked in. Like I could feel it in my feet. :D Cabinet and other doors would open/close on their own. At my insistence, he had it tested and the insurance co. determined through bore samples down to 100' that the back of the house was on a very ancient sinkhole filled with decayed vegetative matter over the eons. Through use of a length of hose with water in it, by measuring the water level in the front and comparing it to the level in the back, they determined the back of the house was about 6" lower than the front. Not dangerous but also not fixable. They "bought back" the policy (ie: "totaled" the house) and changed it to a liability-only.

So the rifle ran amazingly. Shot 5 rounds at 10 yards or so just to function test. It runs amazing. So we went back to 100 yards. Within 4 rounds, I was shooting 1" dot stickers without putting in much effort whatsoever. My buddy has 2 ar500 body silhouette targets at 100 yards on his property. 1 of them has a 2" flapper hole in the middle, and a 6" steel plates hanging from a metal stand and chains. I was making the 6" plate dance in the video. As you can see, there wasn't much effort. But not a single malfunction of any kind. Ill also post a video of my buddy shooting it i took from his side, just to shoot how little recoil there is.
