A lot of folks don't realize that the UK was a financial mess after WW1 and WW2 and has never fully recovered to its old school glory.
The UK was so broke after WW2 that the Walt Disney company couldn't take any of the money it made showing Disney films in the UK out of the country. That is why there were so many Disney productions made in the 40's-50's-60's in England with British actors. They had to spend the money in the UK to boost the economy.
The British government defaulted on the war debt for WW1 in 1934. It has never been repaid.
It took them until 2006 to finally repay the war debt for WW2. Think about that. 60 years.
Essentially the UK cannot afford to maintain a modern armed forces unless we underwrite it.
Which if Hegseth holds true to his threat to close all the bases in NATO countries because they ain't holding up their end of the NATO log, I think they will all have a come to Jesus moment.
Plus, it will have a major effect on the areas around those bases from the sudden disappearance of money spent by the US military and individual soldiers/sailors/airmen in the local economy.
