What ya listening to?

The comments below Racer's X post delve into why Squire became non-famous. I think it was his "Rock Me Tonight" video where he tried to compete with that superpower Simmons... :D

He can't even hold a candle to the gayness that was Freddie Mercury, eh? But that didn't slow Freddie down.

I'm not implying that Richard Simmons (or Squire) was gay mind you... :D
not that there's anything wrong with that seinfeld GIF by myLAB Box

Great songs, great talent. Great choice in guitars, too.

Sadly, I think he sunk his own career- one particular appearance (I think it was on SNL, but I can't be sure) WHILE seemingly an unstoppable juggernaught, he was in the middle of a number and swaggered over to one of his other male musicians, and planted lip-lock right on the lips and then sauntered off. It was pretty gross, and especially for that time, very shocking. IMO it's the untold truth of why his career quickly faded after that. JMO.
:ROFLMAO:
And his coming out the closet MTV video for Rock Me Tonight. After that, Billy Squire became like Michael Jackson -every one liked his music, but no one wanted to admit it.

I honestly had no idea about this side of Billy Squier's story. I've always liked his music. Had no clue about these stories.

He might not be gay for real. In the 80s, most rock bands looked like transsexuals, and I can see some agent telling him to queer up his act a little. According to google, a gay guy named Kenny Ortega directed the video for Rock Me Tonight, and was probably feeding Billy a bunch of crap, like "wait until the women see you in this video, you'll be bigger than Elvis or the Beatles". 🤣

I just looked it up, and he dated women in the 80s, and got married in 2002.

Off topic a little, but I just found out he's 5'6". I didn't think he was tall, but figured 5'10', maybe 5'11". Ol' Billy's full of surprises.

I honestly still don't get it, though. Why did it ruin him but not Freddie Mercury (Queen) or Rob Halford (Judas Priest)?

Instead of "Billy Squire" I think he meant to name the band "Billy's Queer". 😄

PS: in honor of his gayness or hotness or Christmas, I added his songs onto my cell phone. There are TWO Christmas songs on there--can you name them? ;)

IMO that's the cover story. Plausible, but the night America saw Squier's lip lock, really put a damper on it. Now that being said, whether he is/was gay bisexual has nothing to do with the talent he (and many others I'd stated earlier) clearly possessed. Back then, even Queen had to step gingerly around the sexuality subject and had some pretty overt videos for the UK audience back then, that our US public (and likely our censors at the time) were not going to have any part of. I think Billy has a wife today. So go figure.

And for a long time, Rob Halford would not officially divulge his proclivities until some years later (after the 80's) but it's not like many didn't suspect or pick up on it. And still, in spite of that- one of the most powerful singers in Rock.

I read/google that Billy did some lip locking with one of his male band members at a concert.
I found out about this whole ugly mess in the 80s, when he made that gay video "Rock Me Tonight", and he's said himself that the video ruined his career, but it's not a surprise that he's had several other gay adventures.
